Hass oder Versöhnung? Nationale Identität und transnationale Beziehungen auf dem Balkan

Jede Gesellschaft, jeder Staat steht nach Gewaltherrschaft, Diktaturen oder Kriegen vor der Frage, wie mit den begangenen Verbrechen, mit den Opfern und Tätern umgegangen werden soll. Die Formen des Umgangs mit der Vergangenheit sind dabei sehr vielfältig. Die 10-teilige Veranstaltungsreihe „Transitional Justice“ möchte anhand ausgewählter Länderbeispiele unterschiedliche Aspekte von gesellschaftlichen und rechtlichen Aufarbeitungsprozessen nach Systemumbrüchen aufzeigen sowie Einblicke in die Erinnerungskultur und -politik in ihrem jeweiligen nationalen Kontext geben. Moderiert wird die Reihe von Tamina Kutscher, Chefredakteurin von dekoder.org.

Die vierte Veranstaltung „Hass oder Versöhnung? Nationale Identität und transnationale Beziehungen auf dem Balkan“ rückt den Fokus auf die Prozesse der Transitional Justice in Albanien, Rumänien, Kroatien und Bosnien-Herzegowina. Wie verlief die Auseinandersetzung mit der gewaltvollen und diktatorischen Vergangenheit unter Enver Hoxta in Albanien? Wie wird dort staatlicherseits mit der Vergangenheit und ihren Hinterlassenschaften umgegangen? Welchen Umgang mit dem kommunistischen Regime wählte Rumänien nach dem blutigen Umsturz von Ceaușescu? Wie gingen die nach dem Zerfall von Jugoslawien neu gegründeten Staaten mit dem Unrecht unter der Diktatur von Josip Broz Tito, aber auch mit den traumatischen Erfahrungen aus den Balkankriegen der 1990er Jahre um? Welchen Einfluss haben die ethnischen Konfliktlinien auf geschichtspolitische Narrative in Kroatien und Bosnien-Herzegowina bis heute? Gibt es einen Zusammenhang zwischen diesen Narrativen und nationalen Identitätskonstruktionen? Und in welchem Verhältnis stehen die Staaten auf dem Balkan aktuell zueinander? Was ist im Hinblick auf den Umgang mit der Vergangenheit vorherrschend: Hass oder Versöhnung?

Hate or Reconciliation? National Identity and Transnational Relations in the Balkans

After tyrannies, dictatorships or wars, every society and every state is faced with the question of how to deal with the crimes committed, with the victims and perpetrators. The forms of dealing with the past are very diverse. The ten-part event series “Transitional Justice” aims to show different aspects of social and legal processes of coming to terms with the past after system upheavals and to provide insights into the culture and politics of remembrance in their respective national contexts. The series will be moderated by Tamina Kutscher, editor-in-chief of dekoder.org.

The fourth event “Hate or Reconciliation? National identity and transnational relations in the Balkans” shifts the focus to processes of transitional justice in Albania, Rumania, Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina. How did Albania come to terms with the violent and dictatorial past under the rule of Enver Hoxta? How does the Albanian government deal with this past and its legacies? How did Romania approach dealing with the communist regime after the bloody overthrow of Ceaușescu? After the collapse of Yugoslavia, how did the newly founded states deal with the injustices under the dictatorship of Josip Broz Tito, but also with the traumatic experiences of the Balkan wars of the 1990s? What influence do the ethnic lines of conflict have on the historical-political narratives in Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina to this day? Is there a connection between these narratives and constructions of national identity? And how do the Balkan states currently relate to each other? In terms of dealing with the past, what is most prevalent: hate or reconciliation?
