Funding

In accordance with its establishment act, the Federal Foundation for the Study of Communist Dictatorship in East Germany funds research projects contributing to the investigation and reappraisal of the causes, history and impact of dictatorship in the Soviet occupation zone / GDR and situating them in the history of 20th century dictatorships as a whole.

PROJECT FUNDING

The Federal Foundation for the Study of Communist Dictatorship in East Germany grants financial support in the form of additional contributions to project funding. Eligible parties include corporate bodies under private or public law, i.e. registered societies, associations, universities, institutions of political education.

Individuals may apply for funding only in exceptional cases (proportionate shares of printing costs, scholarship programmes). The granting of funding is contingent on the Foundation’s financial resources and scholarly priorities as determined by the relevant bodies in the sense of the Foundation’s task as stipulated by its establishing act. No entitlement to receive funding exists.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME

Each year, the Federal Foundation for the Study of Communist Dictatorship in East Germany offers a total of eight scholarships for doctoral dissertations. Eligible for this programme are university graduates from all relevant disciplines.

MEMORY WORK PROGRAMME

In the context of its international cooperation efforts to support the study of dictatorships and violent state regimes, the Federal Foundation for the Study of Communist Dictatorship in East Germany provides funding for an international exchange programme in the area of ‘Memory Work’ each year.
