James Harris
James Harris, Senior Lecturer at the University of Leeds, spoke about the stream of intelligence Stalin received from the political police and other agencies engaged in the surveillance of the regime's enemies. He showed that beginning with the October revolution and the "red terror", the regime never set a solid standard of evidence against which the dimensions of the threat could be judged. The event is part of the lecture series "Stalinist Terror in the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe."
